Members of the Spokane Fire Department (SFD) rescued a dog they found unconscious after chewing on a pipe.
On Wednesday, May 29, an engine from the SFD was dispatched to East Queen Avenue for a reported overdose. According to Spokane firefighters, they encountered a woman holding a tiny, three-pound, nine-month-old Chihuahua. Firefighters noticed that the dog was distressed and sluggish. The owner informed the SFD that she had found the dog chewing on a pipe in her backyard, and since then, it had been difficult to rouse and keep awake.
Firefighters treated the dog for an overdose after observing slow breathing, pinpoint pupils and lethargy. They administered a small dose of Narcan and contacted an emergency veterinarian.
