Lightning ignites wildfire in North Cascades, closes highway

VIDEO: State Route 20 closed late Wednesday night due to a wildfire burning in the North Cascades. The fire is burning near Easy Pass, which is about 23 miles east of Diablo Lake, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). Eastbound SR 20 is closed near Granite Creek at milepost 148. Westbound SR 20 is closed east of Rainy Pass at milepost 158. Officials did not give an expected time for reopening. The fire ignited July 17 from lightning, according to the Northwest Interagency Coordination Center (NWCC), which manages logistics for firefighting efforts in Washington and Oregon. As of July 18, it had burned 100 acres and was 0% contained. The fire was burning timber.
