PHOTOS: For the past few years, Anacortes residents and visitors have observed a piece of history pass through Commercial Avenue as part of the city's 4th of July celebration.
That piece of history is the old Anacortes Fire Department's LaFrance Fire Engine, which is celebrating its 100-year anniversary this year.
To commemorate the occasion, Anacortes residents are invited to AFD's Fire Station #1 for a centennial birthday celebration featuring cake and juice on July 4 immediately following the Independence Day parade.
Additionally, festivities at the fire station will include a "push-in ceremony" for the department's newest ladder truck, which entails community members pushing the new engine into the station.
The festivities will also grant the group of volunteers responsible for the old LaFrance engine's restoration a moment in the spotlight.
