PHOTOS: The Hillman fire in Yakima's West Valley was contained overnight after destroying two homes and a shop on Monday.
The fire started around 3:40 p.m. in the 1100 block of Hillman Road. It charred about 150 acres, along with structures and numerous power poles and transformers, according to the West Valley Fire Department.
The department said the fire was caused by a tractor mowing with a brush hog.
Evacuation notices were lowered to Level 1 "be aware" Monday night.
Helicopters and aircraft were called to help suppress the fire. Firefighters from West Valley, departments across the valley, the Department of Natural Resources, Bureau of Land Management and the Forest Service responded. BLM land was involved.
The fire has been declared eligible for federal assistance.
