VIDEOS/PHOTOS: Crews with the Tacoma Fire Department (TFD) responded to a large fire at the former Gault Middle School early Wednesday morning. Residents in the area were asked to keep doors and windows closed to avoid any smoke coming from the large fire. The school, located on the 1100 block of E Division Ln in Tacoma, closed in 2009. TFD Battalion Chief Todd Magliocca told KOMO News the former middle school is on the department’s list of dangerous and derelict buildings in the city. Crews began demolishing the school Wednesday afternoon after an emergency declaration from the TFD deemed the building unsafe. Fire officials had a demolition crew come in to push the outer wall of the building in as a precaution so it didn't fall out and cause any injuries. Demo crews are expected to be at the site through Thursday.
