In a heartwarming celebration of heritage and community spirit, the North Twentymile Lookout, a century-old beacon nestled in the heart of the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, has been given a new lease on life. This June, the lookout marked its 100th anniversary with a series of repairs and a fresh coat of paint, thanks to the joint efforts of the Methow Valley Forest Fire Lookout Association (MVFFLA) and the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. Located 20 miles northeast of Winthrop, WA, the North Twentymile Lookout stands at an impressive 7,437 feet. The restoration efforts, which began in earnest in 2015, aim to preserve this historic site for future generations. This year, volunteers, demonstrating remarkable dedication, hiked up three gallons of paint to refresh the structure, enhancing its resilience against the elements.
