The Spokane Valley Fire Department (SVFD) announced they received a $20,000 grant from State Farm to help prevent local wildland fire risks. This grant is part of the 2024 Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) Fuels Reduction Program and will “look to help build a more comprehensive and sustainable wildfire mitigation program.” “This population growth not only increases the calls for service for SVFD,” said Deputy Chief of Prevention Brett Anderson, “It also increases the need to develop strategies to address the increase in wildfire risk.” The program will also include public education and fuel reduction activities that prioritize at-risk residents and neighborhood growth within or near the WUI.
