Firefighters rescued a woman who fell into a 40-foot hole in Mabton early Wednesday morning, according to a Yakima County Fire District 5 post on Facebook. The woman was moving wood with someone when the ground gave way, resulting in the woman falling into the hole. The property owner wasn’t aware of the hole, the fire district said. Firefighters worked about 2½ hours to safely lift the woman from the hole and she was taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland with serious injuries, the fire district said. Her condition wasn't immediately available. Members of the Yakima Training Center, Yakima County Sheriff’s Office, Yakima and Sunnyside fire departments, Life Flight, Prosser Memorial Hospital Ambulance and the Mabton Police Department provided mutual aid.
