Natural gas has been out in many cities in the Yakima County, after the tank explosion that happened in Toppenish near the old sugar factory Friday, which has now confirmed one person dead and another injured. Cascade Natural Gas personnel are working to restore natural gas, in four different cities in Yakima County. Those four cities are Toppenish, Granger, Zillah and Wapato. When we spoke to the fire chief of the Toppenish Fire Department on Friday, he said there was an apparent natural gas project that was being worked on prior to the fire starting, that has been in progress for several months. "These trucks were brought in to pump into the system to keep gas flowing through the residences of Toppenish and Granger and Zillah and the surrounding areas, while they replace valves and replace lines," said Timothy Smith, the fire chief of Toppenish Fire Department.
