Wildfires are still a big concern, even as the season changes.
"Human beings still cause over 90% of our wildfires in Washington state," Washington State Forester George Geissler said.
It's an alarming statistic.
The Ad Council just released a new public service announcement featuring Smokey the Bear. It's aimed at helping people learn how to prevent even more destruction.
Geissler said Washington's numbers in 2023 are actually a bit lower than in years past.
Data provided by the Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) shows just over 1,000 fires have burned on DNR-protected land statewide so far this year. That's the lowest we've seen in quite some time.
