PHOTOS: According to Kennewick Fire Department Fire Chief, Chad Michael the Zintel Canyon Fire on the afternoon of September 8, may have been human-caused. At 1:16 p.m. KFD was called to a Natural Cover Fire behind the Kennewick Irrigation District administrative building. When crews arrived it was found that a large black collumn of smoke was coming from the Canyon. After getting closer to the fire, Chief Michael determined that the fire was growing uphill towards the Kennewick Irrigation District building. The fire was burning vegetation and was difficult to access according to KFD, so much like a forest fire, crews used hand tools and hose lines to fight the Zintel fire. The fire was contained in about 30 minutes according to the KFD and is estimated to have burned between 2 and 4 acres.
