PHOTOS: Both directions of Interstate 5 in the Olympia-Tumwater area reopened Tuesday morning after a semi-truck overturned Monday night. The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) first reported the crash near Custer Way (milepost 103) around 10:40 p.m. Monday. The crash closed both directions of the interstate for more than five hours before the southbound lanes reopened around 4:30 a.m. The northbound lanes reopened to traffic just before 7:30 a.m. Tuesday. The Washington State Patrol (WSP) said the Washington State Department of Ecology responded to the scene to assess hazmat concerns “involving corrosive substances that were a part of the load.” WSP Trooper John Dattilo posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, that no hazmat issues were suspected after crews inspected the overturned semi-truck.
