VIDEO: On the day of the Gray Fire, John and Cindy Altheide lost what was supposed to be their 'forever home' in Medical Lake.
Two months later, they are starting to make progress on their property with a little help from their community and the 4 News Now Extreme Team.
"You go to bed exhausted, and you wake up tired, and that's pretty much it. It's been a draining experience," said John Altheide.
Since the fire, the Altheides have been living out of an RV and waiting for any sign of progress.
"We are hoping for the day when the foundation goes in and the building becomes kind of automatic," said John. The rebuilding process can be overwhelming between Asbestos testing, building permits, and all the other items on the to-do list.
