This week marks National Fire Prevention Week. We talked to leaders from the Pasco Fire Department who tell us kitchen fires are the number one cause of house fires in the city.
With the holiday cooking and baking season right around the corner, Pasco fire leaders say the number one thing you can do to prevent an out-of-control kitchen fire, is to not leave your dish unattended.
"We have lots of cooking-related fires throughout the year, they're usually pretty small, they fill a house with smoke, and people are standing by their pans. There may be some smoke in your house, we're happy to come out and help get that smoke out of your house."
Whether it be the stovetop, oven, or even the microwave, firefighters say staying in the cooking area will give you the upper hand and early notice of a fire in the kitchen.
