An arson suspect is hospitalized after he was flushed out of a building by police during a standoff early Sunday. At approximately 01:17 AM, Ephrata Police Department rushed to an apartment at 31 Basin St SW following reports of a barricaded individual engaging in dangerous and destructive behavior. The suspect, identified as 37-year-old Andrew Parent, created a tense and hazardous situation by using a spray can and lighter to set fire to the apartment. In an attempt to stop him, another resident, tried to wrestle the can away. The situation escalated quickly, with Parent attempting to spray and ignite the intervening person. Alerted by the commotion, a quick-thinking resident of the complex intervened using a garden hose to douse the flames through an open window.
