VIDEO: A runaway barge caused by high winds at the Seattle waterfront has been secured by the U.S. Coast Guard. The Coast Guard confirmed the barge drifted from Terminal 18 and made contact with Pier 66 in Elliot Bay just before 1:30 p.m. Thursday. The Coast Guard said it will be doing a damage assessment at the pier. The Coast Guard said three tugboats were able to get control of the barge. There were no reports of injuries or pollution as a result of the situation. Seattle Fire Department (SFD) Public Information Officer David Cuerpo confirmed there was initially potential for evacuating impacted buildings, but once the tugboats got control of the barge, the evacuation efforts were canceled. In a video posted to X by Jackson Teal, tugboats come to the rescue and pin the barge against a dock.
