PHOTO: A slow deconstruction of the historic Fairhaven building that burned Saturday night has begun. Fire Chief Bill Hewett says the contractor moved equipment in place Tuesday to start slowly taking the building apart. He says it will likely be days before the structure is safe enough for investigators to safely examine the scene. The preliminary investigation indicates that the fire started somewhere in the back half of the Harris Avenue Cafe. But they’ll need to be able to get into the building to determine exactly where and how the fire started and to locate possible victims. The only person unaccounted for is cafe owner Nathaniel Breaux. Hewett says the building is a total loss and none of the structure can be preserved. Harris Avenue and 11th Street near the building are again closed to traffic while the building is dismantled.
