VIDEO/PHOTOS: Two children and one adult were taken to the hospital after a fire in the Tillicum neighborhood of Lakewood on Wednesday.
West Pierce Fire and Rescue (WPFR) said it received a call around 11:30 a.m. about an apartment fire on Washington Avenue. Firefighters entered the apartment and rescued two children from the fire. A department spokesperson told KOMO News both children were then taken to the hospital.
The department said the children were transported in "serious condition." One adult was also taken to the hospital.
Neighbors told KOMO News at the scene that they heard children inside the unit screaming for help as smoke billowed out the windows.
“We did what we could, just open the door, open the window, call the authorities and scream our heads off for anyone to help us," neighbor Lisa Anderson said.
