VIDEO: Kennewick fire officials said a cooking fire caused damage to at least three apartments at a complex Tuesday night.
It happened at the Copper Ridge Apartments on the 5500 block of West Hildebrand Boulevard. The fire started just after 5 p.m. According to Deputy Fire Chief Michael Heffner, the tenant of the apartment on the third floor of the B building was cooking on the stove. They walked out onto their patio, however, somehow, the door became locked behind them.
Deputy Chief Heffner said the person was unable to get back into the apartment and saw the fire start. He said the sprinkler system was triggered in the apartment and helped suppress the fire until firefighters could get to the scene. Firefighters were able to rescue the person and they were assessed at the scene.
At this time, the cost of the damage is not known.
