Whatcom County Search and Rescue needs a new home.Treasurer Gwynne Top says they are raising funds for a new building to house equipment for their six units.
Those include mountain rescue, swift-water rescue, snowmobile, four-wheel-drive, horse and canine units.
They are known for backcountry rescues but also help with other searches such as for lost kids and dementia patients.
They were key to the county’s response to the pandemic and recent floods, and they watch over Ski to Sea participants each year.
And Top says they are all volunteers.
She says they have received generous donations of a parcel of land near Everson, site prep and planning for a new building.
They now need to raise about $1 million for the building itself.
