Around 11:45 on Friday night, Albemarle County Fire Rescue responded to a fire at Comfort Inn on Inn Drive.
Arriving shortly after the call, fire rescue reported fire conditions in a first-floor hotel room. As the fire was being extinguished, a second fire was discovered in a storage room on the second floor.
ACFR reported that the second floor was filled with heavy black smoke and a second alarm was initiated.
Both fires were contained to the respective rooms; however, there was smoke damage throughout the building.
44 of the hotel rooms were occupied with over 80 guests. All guests and staff were able to evacuate safely.
The Albemarle County Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the fire. The damages are estimated at $500 thousand.
