VIDEO/PHOTOS: A camera caught the moment a Portsmouth house under construction caught on fire.
Surveillance video shows a beam of light flashing into the home on Sea Spray Drive, which led to an inferno.
Neighbors from Portsmouth and across the Sakonnet River in Tiverton saw the flames glowing in the night sky.
“To see something like that so close, it’s horrible,” Nancy Moniz, a Tiverton resident said. “It’s a horrible thing to happen.”
Portsmouth fire officials said two nearby houses suffered minor heat damage, but no one was injured.
According to town property records, the 1.5 acre property was sold in October for $899,000.
The house was under construction, and no one was living in the home when the fire happened.
On Wednesday, the ashes were still smoldering.
A neighbor saw the smoke, and called firefighters to return to the scene.
