First responders from both sides of Narragansett Bay took each other on on Saturday in a soccer match to benefit youth soccer in East Providence. A team made up of police and fire department personnel from East Providence hosted members of the Warwick Police at Pierce Field. According to East Providence Mayor Bob DaSilva it’s the first soccer competition between the cities, though public-safety personnel from both communities previously met in Warwick for a hockey match. He added, however, that he “didn’t realize we had this many soccer players among the ranks.” Proceeds from the game went to benefit the East Providence Youth Soccer Association. The final score: East Providence over Warwick, 3-1.
