Lincoln: Manville firefighter dies after nearly 50 years on the job

The Manville Fire District announced the passing of warden and former Chief James Akers on Tuesday. In a social media post, Manville fire said Akers was a member of the department for almost 50 years and served as its chief from 1994-2001. He was also a lifelong resident of Manville. Akers died peacefully at the age of 67, according to his obituary. He is remembered as a loving and cheerful person who enjoyed serving his community. He is survived by his mother, wife, daughter and grandchildren, among other family. Akers’ funeral was held Saturday at Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home and he was laid to rest at St. James Cemetery in Manville.
