The smell of smoke still lingers in the air on Pine Street in Providence. The damage from the flames that went up between the two homes around 11 p.m. Sunday night is still very visible. Providence Fire Chief Derek Silva said it took 65 firefighters to put out the fire over several hours. “After 30 minutes to an hour, around 12 or 12:30 it got so bad,” a Providence resident who lives on Pine Street said. “I looked out my window and it was all smoke.” ABC 6 was told by several residents that the blue home closest to the intersection of Pine and Pearl Streets had caught on fire before. Locals said they are not surprised to see this happening again. They said it’s been vacant for a few years now.
