PHOTOS: The Providence Fire Department responded to an encampment fire near Gano Park in Providence Thursday morning. The department said the fire broke out at an unhoused encampment and that some propane tanks caught fire. The encampment was located behind the park along the bike path that fronts the Seekonk River. No injuries were reported. The fire department said no one was there when the fire started. An NBC 10 News crew was reporting on another story in the area when it heard popping sounds and alerted the fire department. In the afternoon, one could see the remnants of personal belongings where firefighters say the flames ignited at the emcapment. Within minutes of the NBC 10 news crew calling 911, the flames engulfed much of the wooded foliage. Firefighters say a couple of propane tanks caught on fire.
