A hazmat team was called to a Walgreens in North Smithfield after several workers fell ill on Monday. North Smithfield Fire Chief David Chartier said crews were dispatched to Walgreens on Victory Highway after five employees in the rear part of the store reported feeling sick. Chartier said crews shut down the air units on the roof and called the regional hazmat team to complete a thorough air sampling. A preliminary investigation determined the situation may have been caused by medication in totes that were delivered earlier in the day, according to officials. Chartier said crews found no evidence of any carbon monoxide in the building, adding that Walgreens management also contacted an HVAC maintenance company to check units on the roof. All employees refused transportation to the hospital, officials said.
