A little more than a year after two water main breaks in the area of Cumberland House of Pizza on Mendon Road, pipes have ruptured again.
Last year’s breaks were on opposite sides of the street and one was to a main line and one to a home service line, perplexing officials as to why some of the town’s more modern pipes were breaking. Cumberland has an older system of pipes that need upgrading, but the infrastructure here is newer, they said at the time.
Fire Chief Nick Anderson said the “large water main break” transpiring Sunday evening is at Morgan Avenue, just to the north of the CHOPS plaza. There are two side streets between the scene of the break and the plaza.
This is the same general area as last year’s breaks, Mayor Jeff Mutter confirmed, and the town also dealt with the washout of nearby Ventry Drive, on the other side of CHOPS, in January.
