PHOTOS/VIDEO: Wednesday night, hazmat crews responded to the scene of this week’s massive fire in Woonsocket after a transformer was hit, causing it to leak. On Monday, firefighters rushed to 20 Privilege St. just before 1 a.m. to find a vacant mill building engulfed in flames. 12 News spoke to Woonsocket Fire Chief Bob Cahill about the ongoing cleanup process. As crews were picking up debris Wednesday night, Cahill said the construction equipment accidentally damaged a transformer on the side of the building, causing an oil spill. “I called in our hazmat crew, called in Rhode Island Energy to come deal with the transformer to help mitigate the situation as well as DEM, worked with our hazmat team to get a plan together,” Cahill explained.
