Firefighters battled a fire in Harrisburg Thursday morning involving multiple vacant rowhomes. The fire was reported around 5:08 a.m. in the 500 block of Forrest Street, according to emergency dispatchers. Harrisburg City Fire Chief Brian Enterline said the two-alarm fire involved four buildings of the historic McClay Street Apartments, adding that the property has been a "thorn in our side for many years." Crews arrived on scene to find the fire was burning in vacant areas above the ceilings. The fire chief said that knowing the history of the building, it's likely there may have been squatters inside, cut crews searched the homes thoroughly and didn't find anyone. "We're working with some challenging conditions inside. These are vacant properties, so there's no displacement of residents, which makes it a little bit more challenging for the fire fight because there's all kinds of junk inside," Enterline said.
