VIDEO: A two-alarm barn fire that broke out at a Lancaster County farm early Tuesday morning destroyed a year's worth of hay bales, the farm owner's nephew said.
The blaze was reported around 5:33 a.m. in the 1500 block of Lime Valley Road, according to emergency dispatchers.
The farm owner's nephew, Harold Welk, said he drove to the farm around 5:15 a.m. Tuesday morning to feed the cattle.
"Got out of my truck, sounded like a rifle going off," Whelk said. "And then I seen a reflection, and I looked over at the barn, and the flames were coming out from under the roof."
The fire destroyed 120 square bales of hay — the farm's entire crop this year, Whelk said in an interview with CBS 21's Yasmine Cowen. Nobody was injured, and no cattle was killed.
Still, it's a "big loss," Whelk said.
