VIDEO: Officials were on the scene for hours after a large barn fire at the Westmoreland Equestrian Center in Hempfield Township.
The Hempfield Township deputy chief Ben Rudd said units were called for smoke in the area but then quickly realized it became a significant fire. "There was a lot of smoldering debris, with this being a storage type barn, there was a lot of hay [to help feed a fire]," Deputy Chief Rudd said.
Pittsburgh Action News 4 was able to speak with someone who worked at the equestrian center. She did not want to be named but told us over 300 winter bales of hay were lost in the fire.
Multiple fire departments arrived on scene just after 3 p.m. Saturday and worked to put out flames at the center's back barn and small accessory structures, which recently went under renovation.
