A two-alarm fire at a home in Coal Township on Tuesday morning caused extensive property damage, but no injuries. The News Item reports that firefighters from Coal Township, Shamokin, Kulpmont and Overlook battled the blaze at the residence of Steven Zuby. Coal Township Deputy Fire Chief Mike Timco, who had command of the scene, said the fire started in a void space between the ceiling and roof in the west corner of the one-story home. He said firefighters had the blaze under control in approximately 30 minutes. Timco said a state police fire marshal has been contacted and will investigate the scene to determine the cause and nature of the fire. Zuby, who is insured, was left at least temporarily homeless and plans to seek shelter with friends.
