A two-alarm fire at the Wernersville State Hospital sent a staff member to the hospital and forced dozens to evacuate. It happened around 2 p.m. Thursday at the state hospital in South Heidelberg Township. Western Berks Fire Department officials say they had been initially called for the report of an automatic fire alarm, but they noticed smoke coming from the third floor. They say the fire started in a dorm room and smoke spread to a nearby hallway. No word on the condition of the staff member who was taken to the hospital. We're told no patients were hurt. The State Police Fire Marshal is investigating.
