Firefighters rushed to an East Penn Manufacturing facility in Maxatawny Twp. Thursday morning for a battery that caught fire. Crews were dispatched just after 9 a.m. to the East Penn Manufacturing Innovation Center located in the 15000 block of Kutztown Road. Initial emergency dispatches called for a possible lithium battery explosion. Fire officials say a single battery that was undergoing testing somehow caught fire. The scene cleared just before 11:30 a.m. and fire marshals from Kutztown Fire and Rescue and Pa State Police remained on scene to conduct their investigation. There were no reported injuries.
