Erie firefighters rescued two dogs from a burning home early Wednesday morning. Crews responding to reports of a fully-involved structure fire in the 400 block of East 11th Street around 5 a.m. When firefighters arrived on scene they were met with thick black smoke coming from the third floor of the single-family home. City of Erie Fire Marshal Donald Sauer said firefighters found one dog inside of the house and one dog in the backyard. Both were unharmed and taken to the ANNA Shelter for a check-up. “The owner lived there by himself and he said he went out of town yesterday to help his mother move into a new apartment in Ohio, so it’s good that he wasn’t home. Although he did have working smoke detectors in his house and we did look for those and check those to make sure they were working okay, so if he would have been home at the time of the incident would have alerted him,” said Sauer.
