The fire chief said repairs were expected to last all day Friday following a water main break in Elizabeth Borough.
The break was discovered by police along Second Avenue at around 1:30 a.m. Friday.
Chief Chad Rager, of the Elizabeth Borough Volunteer Fire Company, said the break on the 12-inch line created several issues, including electrical panels taking on water and gas lines having to be struck down.
Rager said about 20 residents and five to seven businesses were affected.
“The main thing is water is going to be shut off in town probably for an extended period of time today,” said Rager. “We’re going to have a lot of issues with that. The traffic’s going to be a mess for the morning commute with shutting this road down. It’s a major intersection here.”
