VIDEOS/PHOTOS: A four-alarm fire brought nearly 100 firefighters to a 100-year-old building on North Thompson Street on Monday afternoon.
Flames leapt out of the 26,000-square-foot building and a black plume of smoke rose into the sky, drifting over nearby Interstate 5. The plume could be seen for miles. According to Portland Fire & Rescue, the fire was reported to be a grease fire in a commercial hood vent at Shin Shin Foods at 400 N. Thompson Street. The business makes noodles.
Arriving firefighters reported heavy fire burning throughout the building and began attacking it with crews on the ground and with ladder trucks pouring water onto the building from above. One aerial ladder poured almost 2,000 gallons a minute onto the structure at one point.
