VIDEO: Big changes could be coming to the Eugene-Springfield Fire Department. On February 15, officials presented a case to bring changes to how the agency operates between the two cities. In 2014, Eugene Fire and Springfield Fire merged, allowing the agency to bring in more staff and resources. The agency is now looking to update the relationship, and Chief Michael Caven presented several options. "The things being considered are: not changing anything, one city contracting with the other for the services, the creation of an inter-governmental entity," Caven said. The review process began in the spring of 2022. Officials took a look at current conditions within the department, the policies set by the two cities, and the budgets both cities have to fund the agency. They recommended changes that would boost the agency's efficiency.
