VIDEO/PHOTOS: Large flames and plumes of smoke could be seen from the Valley River Inn Tuesday morning as the southeast portion of the building caught fire.
The rapidly growing fire required all on-duty resources from the Eugene Springfield Fire to respond.
Crews responded around 11:00 a.m. and they gained control of the fire around 2:30 p.m.
Chief Mike Caven with Eugene Springfield Fire said it all started on the second floor and quickly progressed from there. “Arriving crews came on scene and found heavy fire coming from the second floor that had already extended to the third-floor,” he said. “This called for a second alarm immediately bringing an additional resource.”
That second alarm quickly progressed to a third as the fire reached the Inn's attic. “Once the fire penetrated the attic space, a third alarm was called, which is nearly all the on-duty resources to get a handle on this fire,” he said.
