Jim Geering Hired as Forest Grove Fire Chief

The City is excited and pleased to announce Jim Geering as the new Fire Chief of Forest Grove Fire and Rescue, and by Intergovernmental Agreement, the City of Cornelius and the rural fire districts of Gaston, Cornelius, and Forest Grove. The City’s selection process included several interview panels composed of community, technical, peer, and staff members to assure broad-based and diverse input. Chief Jim Geering served for 35 years at the Chula Vista Fire Department and held every rank within the organization including Firefighter, Engineer, Fire Captain, Training Officer, Fire Inspector, Fire Investigator, Fire Marshal, Battalion Chief, Deputy Chief, and Assistant Chief. He served and retired as Fire Chief from 2014-2020. Chief Geering earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Studies from California State University, Long Beach, and is recognized by the California State Board of Fire Services as a Chief Officer.
