VIDEO: One woman is dead and one man was airlifted to the hospital after a house explosion at 4621 Burleson Road in the Town of Lincoln in Madison County on Wednesday evening, July 24.
The first 911 calls went out around 6:40 p.m. When firefighters arrived at the scene, they saw the home was destroyed with debris all over, said Samantha Field, a public information officer for Madison County.
They rescued the man and woman from the debris. The woman was dead at the scene, and the man was airlifted to Upstate Hospital.
The man and woman were the residents of the home, Field said.
First responders also reported smelling propane at the scene. The cause of the explosion is under investigation.
Burleson Road will remained closed overnight, according to Field.
