Las Vegas Fire & Rescue and the American Red Cross held their annual demonstration Monday to showcase some of the dangers when it comes to improperly frying a turkey for your holiday meal.
Officials say trying to deep fry a frozen turkey can lead to catastrophic home fires and serious injuries.
Nationwide, there are more cooking fires on Thanksgiving than any other day of the year, and firefighters demonstrated how to properly use a fire extinguisher. Larry Stoney, deputy fire chief for the city of Las Vegas, said when using an indoor fire extinguisher, use the PASS method: pull, aim, squeeze, sweep.
"This is the time of year where there is a lot of cooking, a lot of visitors in the home, so just make sure that when you are cooking, you exercise care," Stoney said.
