An intense fire erupted early Friday morning at a dwelling under construction in Avalon, but fortunately resulted in no injuries, thanks to the swift response of the Avalon Volunteer Fire Department and several assisting agencies. Just before 1:00 AM, firefighters were dispatched to the fully engulfed single-family wood frame house at 156 32nd Street. The first responding unit initiated a full first alarm response upon arrival. The fire was brought under control within approximately 50 minutes, at 1:50 AM, though Chief Dean escalated the response to a second alarm to ensure adequate manpower at the scene. Adjacent buildings sustained damage due to the fire’s intensity. In addition to local units, the firefighting effort was supported by Avalon EMS, Stone Harbor, Sea Isle City, Ocean View, Cape May Court House, Rio Grande fire companies, the Cape May County Fire Coordinator, and Middle Township EMS.
