A male was pulled from water after apparently jumping from the Bayonne Bridge in an attempt to take his life, Port Authority spokesman Lenis Valens said.
The male was recovered by a tugboat Saturday afternoon in the water of the Kill Van Kull, just east of the bridge, said Bayonne Fire Department Deputy Chief Bill Bartos.
First responders were dispatched to the Bayonne Bridge on a report of a jumper at 1:59 p.m., Bartos said. Units found a tugboat pulling someone aboard.
Bayonne Fire Boat Marine 1 pulled up aside the tugboat and transferred the person to their boat. Firefighters provided medical attention to the person as they went towards the boat launch at 16th Street Park. There, they were met by EMS.
The BFD, BPD, McCabe EMS, BOEM, NYPD, NYPD Aviation, FDNY and PAPD reported to the area for the incident.
