VIDEO: Sunday afternoon, stations across the nation struck the four fives as a part of Bells Across America ceremonies honoring firefighters who died in the line of duty. One of those stations was here in Siouxland - in Dakota City, Nebraska, who have lost three of their own.
“They always had the bell to ring for service, but they would also ring the bell when there was a line of duty death in their community,” said Dakota City’s Fire Chief Clint Rasmussen.
“It’s an honor for us to do this for them. We don’t want to forget about them because of their dedication and the sacrifices that they made,” said Pat Moore, First Assistant Fire Chief in Dakota County. ”We will never stop doing this, we don’t care if there’s only five people in the room and we’re still going to do this; we’ll do it every year it’s possible.”
