A historic former home and current museum in Decatur, Nebraska is a total loss after a fire Saturday morning.
Decatur Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department tells KTIV that it was called to the Decatur Museum around 7:15 a.m. for that fire.
Crews from Decatur and nearby Onawa, Tekamah, Lyons, Bancroft and Craig spent several hours battling the fire. The building is considered a total loss.
The cause of the fire is still undetermined at this time.
Museum officials and community members were on scene Saturday afternoon sifting through the rubble to see what could be saved. They tell KTIV this is a devastating blow to the small community and they are completely heartbroken at the loss of history.
According to the museum Facebook page, the Decatur Museum was established to preserve the rich history of the village of Decatur, Nebraska.
