Home destroyed, pet killed in Norfolk fire

A northeast Nebraska fire department had their hands full with a house fire on Tuesday afternoon. Norfolk Fire and Rescue responded to the 1900 block of Carmel Drive for a report of a kitchen fire around 2:10 p.m. Upon arrival, heavy smoke could be seen coming form the house with multiple fire rigs responding to the scene. Norfolk Fire Chief Tim Wragge said the fire was under control within 45 minutes of units being called, using 37 firefighters and eight rigs. Norfolk Fire and Rescue Capt. Scott Bonsall said it took an additional two hours to overhaul the structure. Wragge said there was no one home at the time of the fire, but all residence have been displaced due to the fire. He said that there were no injuries to firefighters, but a pet inside the residence did not survive the fire and person was transported to the hospital for evaluation.
