Under a proposed "Fleet Replacement Plan", the City of Omaha would spend $10.9 million in the next three years to replace 18 vehicles in the fire department, according to a proposal announced Thursday by Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert.
The plan would create a timeline to replace and standardize all fire apparatus over the next eight years by using the same vendors for multiple purchases. "We must always have up-to-date, safe and reliable apparatus to provide the best fire and emergency medical response possible," said Stothert in a news release.
The initial purchase of 18 vehicles will be paid from the city's Capital Improvement Program, the City Capital Improvement Fund, and the Contingent Liability Fund.
The city will purchase the vehicles from MacQueen Equipment, LLC.
They include seven medic units made by Demers Ambulance USA, and 11 emergency vehicles, including pumper trucks and ladder trucks produced by Pierce Manufacturing.
