A couple of Nebraska ice fishermen are safe after being rescued on Harlan County Lake. According to the Republican City Fire Chief, it all happened around 12:30 p.m. on Saturday when a couple of gentlemen were enjoying ice fishing on the lake. The fire chief said judgement lapsed and the men didn't notice that the ice around them had been melting away. Essentially, they had a 50-foot section of water around them between the shoreline and where they were sitting, according to the fire chief. The Republican City Fire and Rescue Team had to call for mutual aid from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Oxford Ice Rescue Team and the Alma Fire and Rescue. The fire chief said it took around an hour and a half to get the men to safety. No injuries were reported and they were rescued via jon boat.
